Girl awarded £6.65 million following tragic car crash

A young girl who was left disabled following a car crash in 2002 has been awarded £6.65 million in compensation. The child, one of four siblings, was travelling in a car driven by her mother when the accident took place. Tragically, her eldest sibling was killed and another sustained a brain injury. A drunk driver, whose car went out of control in bad weather conditions and plunged down a gorge paralysing his friend, has been found guilty of dangerous driving. Robert Buzalski, Krysztof Birula and one other man were driving towards Edzell on 24 August 2013 when the crash took place on a farm road from Cornes Cottage to Dalbog Farm, near Edzell. A traffic enforcement officer has been awarded compensation after a drunk driver put an end to his career four years ago. 43-year-old Colin Hickey had been patrolling the outside of St Bede’s School in South Shields in 2011 when a driver pinned him between his van and metal railings. A pensioner who was left brain damaged following a car accident has been awarded £1m in compensation. 71-year-old James Laurie was hit by a Volvo nearby his house three years ago whilst he was recovering from a stroke. A man has been sentenced to a suspended prison sentence after his dangerous driving caused a car accident that left a teacher critically injured. 78-year-old John King pleaded not guilty to the sentence that his dangerous driving caused an accident, claiming that a medical condition resulted in his loss of consciousness during the approach to the roundabout where the accident happened. Since police were presented with new powers to hand out on-the-spot fines for careless driving two years ago, over 300 drivers have been fined in the Avon and Somerset region. A man in Northern Ireland is due to receive around £6million in compensation after he suffered life-changing injuries in a car accident. A motorist has survived an 80ft cliff fall after his car slid from the road and into the sea near Brighton. The man managed to free himself from the submerged vehicle and swam back to the rocks with only minor injuries. Road safety charity Brake has urged all drivers to commit to ‘not a drop, not a drag’ when driving this festive period. The call comes as the Association of Chief Police Officers launches its annual festive drink and drug driving enforcement campaign. During last year’s campaign, English and Welsh police forces stopped and tested 157,000 drivers, making 7,200 arrests.
